New Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept Revealed Ahead of Tokyo Motor Show

Subaru has introduced the newest Hybrid Tourer Concept that will be debut at the upcoming 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept powered by a hybrid engine that combines a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo petrol engine and the Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with an electric motor at each axle and a high-performance lithium battery.

Power is primarily provided by the boxer engine that is connected to a new generation Lineatronic CVT (continually variable transmission). According to Subaru, at outset-up and awfully low speeds, the 20kW / 27HP rear thrilling motor can move the vehicle on its own while during acceleration, it kicks into give an additional energy boost to the petrol engine.

As for the 10kW / 13HP emotional motor located on the front axle, Subaru said that it is normally used as an authority generator to revive the lithium-ion sequence while it also provides additional warrant for rise climbing.

Another special presented of the four-seater Hybrid Tourer Concept is the EyeSight+ (‘Plus’), a new driving assist system that uses “stereo camera technology” to find any obstacles in the vehicle’s conduit and inform the driver on appropriate driving maneuvers.

The new Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept with the gullwing-like doors, ventilated leather seats, and a completely flat floor will be debut on 21 October at the Tokyo Motor Show.

UPDATED: Our source tell us that they have information that Subaru is working on a spiritual successor to the SVX. The SVX was designed by Guigaro while at ItalDesign and went into production in 1991. Power came from a 3.3-litre flat 6 engine producing 172kW (234hp) and 309Nm of torque. At the time the BMW M3 (E36) was one of its primary targets.
